Titanium dioxide prices surge for the fourth consecutive time, with sulfuric acid price hikes driving up production costs                                                             The rise in sulfur prices has further increased titanium dioxide production costs. Data shows that as of May 15, the average domestic price of solid sulfur was 7,341.25 yuan per ton, up 3,489.37 yuan per ton from the end of February, a 90.59% increase. The average domestic price of liquid sulfur was 7,351.08 yuan per ton, up 3,527.75 yuan per ton from the end of February, a 92.27% increase. Producing one ton of titanium dioxide requires approximately 3.6 tons of sulfuric acid. Due to difficulties in raw material procurement and rising costs, many titanium dioxide producers have halted or reduced production. By May, orders for many companies have gradually returned to normal levels. Analysts also note that as inventory from earlier periods is gradually depleted and the traditional off-season arrives in June, despite high upstream raw material prices, the room for titanium dioxide price increases may narrow, with short-term adjustment pressure present. Customs data shows that in the first quarter of 2026, titanium dioxide exports totaled 536,800 tons, up 7.15% year-on-year; among these, March exports were approximately 201,500 tons, up 8.92% year-on-year and 33.03% month-on-month. From the annual reports of multiple listed companies in the titanium dioxide industry, it is evident that going global and internationalization are becoming key words for these enterprises.
